The tapir – the gentle giant of the rainforest
Tapirs are among the most fascinating, yet also most endangered, animals in South America. With their elongated snouts, they look a bit like a cross between a pig and an anteater, but they are closely related to horses and rhinoceroses. As herbivores, they play a crucial role in the ecosystem: they disperse seeds, thus helping to keep the rainforest healthy and diverse. Without the tapir, many plant species would not survive – and with them, an important piece of biodiversity would be lost.
Human threat
Unfortunately, tapirs are severely threatened. Deforestation, poaching, and habitat destruction are taking a heavy toll on these animals. Especially in Colombia, where CALDAS Coffee originated, tapir habitats are shrinking year after year. Yet these animals are essential for the region's ecological balance.
Our commitment to the Wildlife Foundation
At CALDAS Coffee, we've decided to take action. With every sip of coffee, we want to create not only enjoyment but also a positive contribution to nature. That's why we support the Wildlife Foundation , which is dedicated to protecting tapirs and their habitats.
The foundation works with local communities to protect habitats, raise awareness, and promote sustainable projects. This benefits not only the animals but also the local people.
Sustainability and responsibility
For us, sustainability means more than just growing good coffee. It also means taking responsibility – for the environment, biodiversity, and the communities we work with. The tapir is a symbol of our commitment: strong, gentle, and indispensable to nature.
Your contribution counts
By purchasing our coffee, you directly support the protection of these unique animals. Together, we can ensure that the tapir is not forgotten, but remains a "gardener of the forest" for future generations.
